Rapping About UMass Journalism

We have got to be one of the hippest departments around — I pass along this note from Karen.

Steve

Hey Everyone,

One of my History and Law students spent some time at her summer internship writing a rap song about the classes. She’s going to record it for me too–but in the meantime, I thought you might get a kick out of this.

From DIPFI’s debut album K.LIST:
9:30 a.m., it’s where we want to be
In the back of the class, it’s Reilly and me
Up ‘til 3:30, we still don’t care
‘Cause if it’s Tuesday or Thursday, we best be there.

Stenographers-what they do isn’t jus-t
Doesn’t ever wanna be another Boy on the Bus
If you see ‘em coming, try to make a fuss
They’re in the line up- those Boys on the Bus

Yes, the Boys on the Bus

She strolls right in, flashing us a smile
From that moment on, we’ll listen for a while
The girl rules journalism with an iron fist
No other like her, it’s Professor Karen List.

Stenographers-what they do isn’t jus-t
Doesn’t ever wanna be another Boy on the Bus
If you see ‘em coming, try to make a fuss
They’re in the line up- those Boys on the Bus

Yes, the Boys on the Bus

This is what we learn in her devoted courses
Never go to court- Don’t reveal those sources
Words are our life, it’s what we do
With help from List, you could do it too.

Stenographers-what they do isn’t jus-t
Doesn’t ever wanna be another Boy on the Bus
If you see ‘em coming, try to make a fuss
They’re in the line up- those Boys on the Bus

Yes, the Boys on the Bus

This is us, a Bartlett 207 tribute band
Don’t ever forget- answer’s always Rhode Is-land
She could go all day, with what we want to know
But it’s 10:45, and we all have to go.

Stenographers-what they do isn’t jus-t
Doesn’t ever wanna be another Boy on the Bus
If you see ‘em coming, try to make a fuss
They’re in the line up- those Boys on the Bus

Yes, the Boys on the Bus

One day, we know she’ll make it to that jury
Unless it’s a sedition case; might send her in a fury
No other class could tare us away
We’ll stay in that room for every night and day.

Stenographers-what they do isn’t jus-t
Doesn’t ever wanna be another Boy on the Bus
If you see ‘em coming, try to make a fuss
They’re in the line up- those Boys on the Bus

Yes, the Boys on the Bus
What, what?
The Boys on the Bus

The Boys on the Buuuus

Word.
